The Skovoroda Fountain, dedicated to the outstanding Ukrainian philosopher Hryhorii Skovoroda, has been gifted to Bila Tserkva by philanthropist Denys Paramonov, founder of the eponymous charity foundation. The city council has already accepted the fountain into municipal ownership and decided to install it in the Pishchanyi district.
The idea of creating the Skovoroda Fountain as part of the Cultural_Code programme of the Denys Paramonov Charity Foundation was dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Ukrainian philosopher. The concept is based on Hryhorii Skovoroda’s idea of the ‘philosophical spring’. It reflects the notion of divine grace flowing from the seed of life and being distributed equally to everyone. The author of the work is Mykhailo Reva, an Honored Artist of Ukraine and a renowned sculptor.
The fountain will reach a height of nearly four meters. At the center of the stone and bronze composition is a seed containing built-in vases and amphorae of various sizes. The block of Brazilian granite used to create the sculpture weighed approximately 20 tons.
“One of the most important tasks for every citizen of our country is the preservation and development of Ukraine’s cultural code. It is thanks to this that our country is known throughout the world as resilient and unbreakable. At the same time, the ‘philosophical spring’ of our fellow countryman Hryhorii Savych Skovoroda has been embodied in the Fountain through a modern interpretation, inspiring the preservation of our people’s cultural values. We decided that this Fountain should be installed in the Pishchanyi district of Bila Tserkva, eventually becoming a tourist magnet not only for the city but for the entire Kyiv region,” philanthropist Denys Paramonov noted.
Therefore, by decision of the Bila Tserkva City Council, the Skovoroda Fountain will be installed in a new public square in the Pishchanyi district, where, beforehand, the Denys Paramonov Chariy Foundation and its partners — enterprises belonging to the SMK Group — will carry out a comprehensive improvement of the area worth approximately 30 million UAH. This will make it possible to build not only the square itself but also new public transport stops, parking facilities, roads, and expanded pedestrian zones. In addition, the SMK Group will invest more than 100 million UAH in the construction of an ultra-modern shopping center.
It should be recalled that during the development of the Skovoroda Fountain, the possibility of installing it in Kyiv was considered. Ultimately, priority was given to Bila Tserkva as the second-largest city in the Kyiv region, which is developing rapidly. Moreover, the Denys Paramonov Charity Foundation has long invested significant resources in Bila Tserkva, including the development of youth sports by reviving and fully funding the local rowing school, while also supporting educational institutions.
