The Denys Paramonov Charity Foundation continues to publish research on the outstanding Ukrainian philosopher Hryhorii Savych Skovoroda, marking the 230th anniversary of his death in 2024.This edition focuses on Skovoroda’s time in Kharkiv. He first arrived in Kharkiv in 1759, and for nearly 35 years, the city would play a crucial role in his life. For this reason, the new publication is also dedicated to the 370th anniversary of Kharkiv’s founding.
The book offers a detailed portrayal of Kharkiv in the second half of the 18th century—the era when Hryhorii Savych Skovoroda lived in and frequently visited the city.In Kharkiv, Skovoroda had friends, acquaintances, and students. He stayed for extended periods, communicated with colleagues, met foreigners, bought paper and ink from local shops, and attended social gatherings. Before Skovoroda’s eyes, Kharkiv transformed from a large settlement into a provincial capital, undergoing educational reforms, experiencing population growth, and seeing the construction of new stone churches and residential buildings. The text is enriched with a wide array of contemporary illustrative materials, prepared specifically for this edition. These visuals provide a vivid impression of Kharkiv during the time of the great philosopher.
