First of all, it is a unique reconstruction of the portrait of Hryhorii Skovoroda, who was very fond of visiting Kharkiv. It is a reconstruction of the life portrait of the philosopher made by the artist-restorer Artem Pohribnyi.
The uniqueness of the original work from which the reconstruction was made is that this portrait of Hryhorii Skovoroda was painted by his pupil Andrii Lukianov in the year of the philosopher's death. Later the portrait was kept in the University Museum. After the revolution it disappeared and today the portrait is considered lost.
“Kharkiv residents and city guests have a unique opportunity to see the reconstruction of Skovoroda's life portrait live, because in reality he looks completely different from most pictures. The portrait is the centrepiece of the exhibition 'Kharkiv by Skovoroda in Portraits and Cityscapes', dedicated to the 370th anniversary of Kharkiv's foundation. At the exhibition you can get acquainted with unknown pages of the history of Kharkiv in the 18th century. This is our gift to Kharkiv residents for the Heroic City Day. Enjoy it and learn the unique history of Kharkiv," - in the Denys Paramonov Foundation noted.
The exhibition is open free of charge until 14 September from Tuesday to Saturday from 12 PM to 18 PM at the Heinrich Semiradsky Art Gallery, 6 Maidan Svobody, Kharkiv.
