In an interview with Focus magazine, the founder of our Foundation, Denys Paramonov, explained how the SMK Group, which he founded, is increasingly developing charity projects and how the Denys Paramonov Foundation has refocused its activities after 24 February 2022.

According to Denys Paramonov, owner of the SMK Group large companies, business in times of war is both a challenge and a new opportunity if you manage to keep your head above water. He recalled how in the first days of the full-scale war all his plants, including the Saltivsky, Bohodukhivsky and Kyivsky meat-processing plants, were operating in a manual mode, while SMK produced 20 tonnes of meat products per cycle, which literally saved people from starvation. The philanthropist also noted that a meat processing plant under a new brand, Saltowski, had been opened in Poland. For its part, the SMK Group has no plans to relocate all of its plants in Kharkiv Oblast to other regions.

Denys Paramonov also told us that during the war, the Charity Foundation he founded spent much more money on good deeds, as before that the charity was focused on the so-called 'cultural sphere'. Now more and more attention is being paid to helping citizens and supporting and developing sport in Ukraine.

“Our Foundation is a living organism that reacts to what happens around it. So, at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, we launched the SVOŚI programme to help residents of the de-occupied territories and those on the demarcation line. We went where others could not reach. We did not care whether it was a village with only ten families left, where no shops were open and there were no basic communications such as gas and electricity, or a large city suffering from a water shortage after the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station broke,” - Denys Paramonov says.

The Denys Paramonov Foundation is one of the top 5 charities supporting hospitals in the country. According to the philanthropist, hospitals are in greater need of medical equipment than ever before. Therefore, he decided to focus on this area. To date, the Denys Paramonov Foundation has provided over 650 hospitals with various equipment and consumables. By raffling off his own luxury cars, Denys Paramonov draws more attention to the problems of supplying medical institutions.

Among the latest programmes launched by the Denys Paramonov Foundation are courses in tactical medicine, which allow anyone, but primarily representatives of critical professions, to acquire skills in first aid.

In addition, the Foundation pays great attention to the development of sport in Ukraine, supporting young athletes and professionals who compete at international level. According to Denys Paramonov, investing in sport is the right thing to do in view of the situation in the country.

“Sport not only distracts children from what is happening around them. The issue of young people travelling abroad is currently very acute. Educators and others have repeatedly raised it. The new generation sees no prospects for staying in Ukraine - that's what scares us. We need to change policies, show opportunities and provide comprehensive support so that young people want to realize their potential here. And everyone can contribute to this,” - Denys Paramonov notes.

He added that the Denys Paramonov Foundation is interested in children and teenagers as much as possible: it opens free sports clubs, helps sports clubs to buy uniforms and equipment, and supports promising athletes to travel to competitions abroad.

In addition, sections in villages receive support. For instance, a football section in one of the villages of the Shevchenkivska municipality in the Kupiansk region will receive sports equipment on St. Nicholas Day. The coach of this section wrote to the Foundation with a request. Currently, 65 children attend the section, compared to only 10-15 when the section was founded.
